Las Cases, Emmanuel, count de
   Born in Las Cases, near Revel, Emmanuel, count de Las Cases emigrated during the revolution of 1789 and returned to France only at the time of the Consulate. in 1802, he published an Atlas historique and in 1810, napoléon i made him chamberlain and a count of the Empire. After the first abdication of Napoléon (1814), Las Cases went to England and returned to France during the hundred days. He accompanied Napoléon to St. Helena, staying with him for 18 months during which he took down the emperor's words and published them in 1823 under the title Mémorial de Saint-Hélène. This work contributed to the dissemination of the Napoleonic legend. on the complaint of the governor of Saint Helena, Hudson Lowe, Las Cases was deported in November 1816 to the Cape. He then settled in Germany and in Belgium and did not return to France until 1821, after the death of Napoléon. Elected deputy for Saint-Denis in 1831, after the july revolution of 1830, he took his place with the extreme Left in the Chamber of Deputies.
